About RAS
RAS Data Services, Inc. was founded in 2002 and since that time has grown into the largest provider of railcar management services in the country. RAS currently provides management services to over 525,000 railcars for shippers, operating lessors, utilities, and short line railroads. Our managed fleet consists of all types of railcars, with the largest percentage being covered hoppers and tank cars. We also have a significant number of high utilization coal cars in our fleet.
RAS offers a complete menu of fleet management services including payment and audit of maintenance bills, handling of bad ordered and railroad damaged cars, review and approval of contract shop estimates and invoices, mileage accounting, Umler management, OT-57 management, Ad Valorem taxes, and management reporting including budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis. The menu format of our services allows clients to select only those which they elect to outsource. We also provide a number of internet based applications which allow our clients real time access to their information in a number of modes.
Our “Management By Exception” systems and our extensive experience and knowledge of railcar science and technology, are the components of our proven process to reduce railcar maintenance costs and increase fleet utilization and efficiency. Unique in that railcar management is our only business, we are able to dedicate 100% of our resources and effort to caring for your fleet.
Operationally, RAS employs more than thirty full time professionals with hundreds of years of combined experience in railcar construction and maintenance, AAR and FRA rules, component performance analysis and coatings. The majority of our employees have hands on experience in railcar repair and inspection. In addition, we employ a group of Information Technology and accounting professionals to handle our clients’ non-mechanical needs. We are also members of NAFCA and NCTA.
